Thinking of moving back to Canada need some opinions?

i am thinking of moving back to canad??…need some opinions.

i am canadian born to Portuguese parents. we moved back to Portugal when I was 15, cause my grandparents were sick.

I met my boyfriend. we have been dating for 5 years.

I am 22 and he is 23. I have an accounting degree and he has alot of experience on bjs dads milk farm. he also has a highschool diploma.

when I lived in Canada I lived in Ontario. if we were to move back we would live with my uncle at first

do we have to marry for my boyfriend to move to Canada? in terms of jobs, is the outlook good?

thank you very much

From a Canadian perspective (which is the only one that matters since you are moving HERE) you are a Canadian citizen unless you have renounced it formally over the years. You’d know if you did that or not.Anyway, more to the point you are a duel citizen and Portugal has no say in the matter. After all, you are only leaving.

The issue for your BF on the other hand is different. He will need to apply for a visa to immigrate to Canada and he will have to do so whether you two are married or still dating.By marrying you he does not automatically gain Canadian citizenship at all or any right to come here with or without a visa over anyone else.He will more then likely be able to find a job but the question that is more pressing is if he will qualify for a visa.Only the local Canadian Embassy can shed more light on that for you/him.

In terms of work for your boyfriend, that’s tricky. How is his command of english? Unless you’re moving to Quebec, his french?

I’ve known many a Portuguese & Portuguese-Canadian working in construction and manual labour (in Toronto) where they work with other Portuguese speaking workers because their english isn’t good enough for other jobs.

He may have to network. Maybe your uncle knows someone who knows someone etc.

Assuming you guys will be above board in all this, but first, check out the gov’t immigration website for more information, www.cic.gc.ca
Is there a Canadian embassy in Lisbon? Perhaps speak to them, too.

Good luck!

Are you a dual citizen? If you were born in Canada that makes you Canadian, unless Portugal doesn’t recognize dual.

You don’t need to marry your boyfriend to get citizenship, and it won’t guarantee you anyway.
There are a lot of scam marriages out there.

Is he Canadian as well? You didn’t mention if he was.

Check out www.cic.gc.ca to see if you qualify.

It depends if he’s skilled in a trade that Canada needs. Good luck.

Didn`t you hear? Toronto has rapidly expanded and now covers all of Ontario. Try Quebec I hear Montreal has finally slipped into the Saint Lawrence River, they are building a new city called Monsucks with a new hockey team called the Monsucks Americens.

You have to get married before he can come to Canada.

Can u please tell me in detail about cities in Canada priority to employment, schools, colleges and community.?

hi… i had applied for PR (permanent residence)in Canada and it has been approved by Canadian government. I’ll get my visa next month. So i wanted some advise about which city to select….i m moving with my family. There r 4 members in my family including me.

Your first priority should be employment so go where you can find work. The job market is not that great right now. Search the internet for jobs in your field and send in lots of resumes before you come. Let them know when you will be available for work.

Smaller towns are cheaper to live in, so try for a small town near a bigger center. The 2 most expensive cities to live in are Toronto and Vancouver.

Most cities have a community college or university. Schools up to the end of high school are free and financed by the provincial government. Unlike the States our public schools are very good and there are very few private schools.

The thing is after you are here a while you can research other communities and move if you find a better one.

I suggest you get a map of Canada and pick out places that sound interesting and look them up on the internet. Most towns and cities have websites

Depends what your work area is. Avoid Montreal if you don’t speak French, watch out for prices in Vancouver. Toronto is a good start for office and general work as it is so big. Calgary and Edmonton are booming.

Does it cost extra money to mail letters to Canada (Ontario)?

Or is it just the same as when you mail letters nationwide? You just put the letter in the envelope and put a stamp on it and send it, right?

Depends on where you are sending them from. If you are sending from outside of Canada, then yes, you have to pay international rate. If you are sending from Canada to a Canadian address then you pay basic rate.

USA vs Canada Art industry(especially Industrial Design sector) which country would you prefer to live in? Im?

USA vs Canada Art industry(especially Industrial Design sector) which country would you prefer to live in?
Im a sculptor artist and thinking to move to USA either Canada to continue my study in a master program in Industrial Design. Which country would you prefer to study Industrial Design and work as an artist, in detail which country do you think will bring yo more respect, money and a good career as an artist?

Canada, and for good reasons.

Canada’s rated as being/having:

-The world’s best advanced economy.
-The only G7 nation fully recovered from the global financial crisis & recession.
-The world’s soundest banking system.
-The world leader in educational attainment.
-The world’s most tolerant country.
-The world’s friendliest nation.
-The world’s most welcoming country.
-The world’s top-brand country rating.

Canada’s also rated as being:

-One of the world’s 10 safest countries.
-One of the world’s 10 most peaceful nations.
-One of the world’s 10 happiest countries.
-One of the world’s 10 least corrupt nations.
-One of the world’s 10 freest countries.
-One of the world’s 10 cleanest countries.

And Canada rates better than the US in all those categories.
Also in comparison to the US:

-Canada has the world’s 2nd highest quality of life (Australia’s currently #1.)
-Canadians pay fewer taxes per person than Americans.
-Canadians have more legal rights & freedoms than Americans.
-Canadians are healthier and live years longer due to universal healthcare.
-Canadians are wealthier than Americans too (higher median net worth per capita.)
-Canadian higher education is less expensive than America’s.

And Canadians are art lovers (or at least more arts friendly) than Americans.
(There’s always some kind of exhibition, event, festival, gala or celebration of the arts going on.)

That’s by no means a complete list, but does give you food for thought.
So if you’re interested, here’s more info – http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index??

If you think you can work in either think again. The essential work permit is effectively impossible to obtain.

If you want to study there then be aware that you will have to finance everything yourself. figure about $50,000 per year as a sensible minimum in either country and at the end of your studies you will not be allowed to stay. Personally I would choose Canada as I believe the education standards are higher there.

Canada. The government subsidizes artists insanely much.

How old do you have to be to get into bars/casinos in Canada?

I know the drinking age is 19 (some places 18) but is that the age to get into/drink at the bars too? I feel like this is a dumb question I just want to make sure.

19, 18 in Quebec, the same goes for casinos

You need to be the drinking age. 18+ for casinos in Manitoba, Alberta, and Quebec. 19+ for casinos elsewhere in Canada.

1 year old

Flying to canada and stop?

Hey soon i’ll be flying to Canada on my own.
Why do i have to pay almost a hundred of euros less when i take 1 stop on my way?
Do i just have to sit and wait?
And how long is it waiting?

The stop means you will go to an airport, get off the plane and sit in the airport. How long you will be waiting depends, it could be 10 minutes or 10 hours. Your ticket will tell you how long to wait.

I personally prefer non-stop flights. They are quicker and you have less chance of losing your luggage, especially if you are coming from Europe. I’d rather pay an extra $100 than lose my luggage for a few weeks.

Yes, you will just be sitting in the airport waiting for your connecting flight to come, also known as your next flight. This is the boring part of the trip. Also, know that your connecting flight may be late or early. If it’s late you will have to wait longer at the airport. If your first flight is late arriving, you might miss your next flight. It’s always best to have at least 1 hour of a wait (layover).

P.S. Pack dry food in your carry on bag and one set of clothes. Food at the airport is expensive, and in case your luggage is lost, you don’t want to only have the clothes you’re wearing.

It most likely means, you’ll be doing a stop-over and waiting for a period of time. Sometimes, it’s the same plane so you sit and wait, but it could be another plane and you have to go and wait for it in another gate. Don’t worry about your luggage, they do that all for you and God-willing it won’t get lost. Also, if you don’t know anything, we’re a very friendly type and will gladly answer your questions. Good luck. P.S. where are you going?

Give me a call if you get stuck, I live near the airport

Air Canada’s Simulators?

Does Air Canada rent out their Flight Training Simulators near YYZ for and hour or so (for a fee obviously) as like a birthday present? I would love to fly a plane, because thats what I have a passion for.

it would be a few thousand…
Go to a small airport and they will take you up and maybe take the controls, and a lot cheaper

I’m going to 2nd Love.Canada’s answer. Going for a discovery flight in a real airplane (http://www.learntofly.ca/) would probably be much cheaper than renting one of Air Canada’s simulators. Also, at the airline I work for(also in Canada) we don’t even rent ours out to anybody who’s not with another airline or accredited flight training program. I’m not sure what Air Canada’s policy is in that regard.

If you’re still keen on a simulator I would try these guys in the Toronto area

You can also drop Air Canada training an email and get a direct answer from horses mouth.

What do you need handy when going to renew your health card? (canada)?

I’m 17 and I still haven’t renenewed my health card, I was supposed to when I turned 16.. Lol. Oops. But my doctor keeps bitching at me when I show up for appts. With an expired health card. So before I go is there anything I need to brigng when renewing it? Obviously my old health card, but like a student card? Or…?

Health cards are a provincial responsibility. You need to specify your province. Not all provinces require one to "renew" their card.I’ve had the same card for 22 years.(had to have it replaced due to damage) but other than that it’s remained valid that entire time.

(If I were a betting man, I’d bet you’re from Toronto)

Eventually the doctor’s office will hand you a bill for your visits. They can’t get paid as long as you keep pissing around with an expired card. Renew it immediately. You are causing lots of problems for your doctor. Consider yourself lucky the doctor is still letting you get away with it. I know someone who was handed a bill because they were too lazy to renew their card. A year after the doctor kept "bitching" she got tired of it and simply handed out a big *** bill.

Every thing you need is listed on the OHIP site. Student cards won’t work. You need something that proves where you live:

Go in person to your nearest OHIP office or Outreach site.
Complete a Health Card Renewal (form 4297-82).
Bring with you an original document that proves your residency in Ontario and an original document with your name and signature to prove your identity (refer to the Ontario Health Coverage Document List (form 9998E-82).

The second link opens up a pdf that lists what id you can use.

The rules vary a lot from province to province.Ontario is particularly strict about the kinds of proof of identification and residence that they will accept.Check the website at the first link if you are in Ontario.

The second link is for Quebec. They are particularly fussy about proof of residency.

In Alberta, you may be able to replace your card by telephoning Alberta Health.

Licence if you have one. SIN card. Birth Certificate.
